Toag

Level: Beginner
Good economics and species advantage of largest market discount provide plenty of flexability in learning the economic systems of Space. The value of this market discount often makes the Toag a very desirable ally, so a beginner player should be able to find an alliance and learn from the other alliance members.

History

Toag

The Toag are an amphibious species with a natural affinity for making profit. Toag will trade anything; family members, allied defense plans, or even their commander, if there's even a tiny hint of possible profit, and as long as it doesn't conflcit with any current contracts. The "feed the greed" attitude of the Toag they have the greatest per capita income of any known species in the Space universe.

Most species would consider Toag history the perfect example of everything which can go wrong with laissez-faire capitalism. They have repeatedly devastated foreign economies, only then helped them recover again at considerable profit for themselves. While most of this excessive behavior has been made illegal by galactic law, the Toag are still feared in many corners of the universe. No doubt their galactic lifespan would become severly limited, if they weren't so ready to provide a credit at "reasonable" rates to those in need.

Toag society is focused as much on corporate life as it is on family or species. All Toag soon learn to deal with power, finance and law (their own law, as well as the law of other species), at least if they wish to succeed in life. Young Toag are typically temporarily apprenticed to friends and sometimes even strangers. It is the general thought other lines of work will toughen up the youth without paternal intervention. After all, the sooner a young Toag learns to survive and prosper, the sooner they too can earn the right to mate and start a family of their own.

The greedy nature of the Toag, and their market-cornering strategies, have given them a definite economic advantage compared to other species.

Ships

Unique Ship: Trader
Basic Requirement: Nanotech and Design Level 10
Additional Requirement: Economics level 16

Advantages: Ship Cost Reductions +10% sensors, +20% income, 40% max Toag Market discount
Disadvantages: Stealth Technology -2.5%, Advanced Sensors -10%

During battle, the Trader's excellent sensors help surrounding ships by improving their accuracy, but its primary use is in planetary conquest. Instead of simply killing a planet's inhabitants, the Trader's large cargo rooms store captured citizens to populate the new colony. The colonist/slaves are deployed to a new colony by an orbiting Trader. Ships endowed with Trader capabilities are greatly slowed down in retreat due to the weight of vast numbers of captured slaves.
