The best Ore producers in the galaxy, this species is excellent for use
by a player with experience of the game, however the disadvantage to Nanotechnology
research can hinder future planet and economic development early on and
be costly to ship production when pursuing the requirements for Aethercraft.
Skill at maintaining a healthy economy is required to ensure that early
advantages are not lost mid-game.
History
The Shy'dow are an evolved species of evil inter-dimensional parasites. Since resources on their homeworld have been completely depleted, they travel through space searching out systems for additional resources. Their strip-mining is infamous, and Shy’Dow are most efficient in leaving a world completely devoid of economic potential.
The handling of the resources on their homeworld and colonized systems have led the Shy'Dow to the brink of extinction. In an effort to save their over-populated worlds, Shy'dow researchers have developed a prototype device called a "Phase-Shifter." Utilizing the latest in Coultonian physics and space-time theory, the Phase-Shifter can literally "tear a hole" in the fabric of space-time, allowing for inter-dimensional travel. The extent of Shy'Dow extra-dimensional travel is unknown
Shy'dow society is based on ruthless competition and achieving any goal where the ends justify the means. Only by securing large quantities of power and wealth can a Shy'dow hope to survive, live well and breed. Shy'dow naval officers are the worst of the lot. The “best” of these ruthless beings are selected from over 3000 trillion people by various forms of lethal training, competitions, and duels to-the-death.
Due to their extravagant lifestyles, Shy'Dow consume resources quickly. Necessity being the mother of invention, the Shy'dow have refined their mining skills beyond those of any other species. The Shy’Dow mining technology is so advanced, they can extract ore from places no other species can get to, thus, they have decreased their ore depletion rate greatly .

The Shy’Dow are viewed by other species as similar to certain breeds of rodentia (but not cute ones, by any stretch of the imagination), which seem to propagate quickly.

The Aethercraft is more salvage ship than a warship.
Once an enemy ship has been destroyed by one of the ships in the Aethercraft's
radius, nanoparasites are sent out from the ship to salvage as much ore
as possible. These nanoparasites also create a thin wall around the hulls
of affected ships, preventing some damage from enemy weapons. Unfortunately,
these nanoparasites have a tendency to get inside missiles during planetary
bombardment, causing ecological disasters
