Despite the good growth rate, Drall are not blessed with the economic advantages early in the game that some other races enjoy. Drall Fist can be very effective when used well.

History

Drall

The Drall appeared in the year 2194 A.D. (The Year of Sorrow), their attack on the Toag colonies caused a huge turn of events that would affect the universe for many years to come. The Drall are a communal species of highly evolved and rapidly growing microbes. Although each Drall microbe possesses limited intelligence, Drall can congregate into mass colonies consisting of trillions of cells, to gain a collective intelligence of all the Drall contained therein. A system inhabited by Drall will support many billions of such colonies. During a colony's lifetime, they will frequently engage in communications with other colonies by exchanging small parts of themselves to trade information.

The Drall are the most recent species to develop fold space technology. Their culture has a strong inward focus, so much so that they sometimes find it taxing to deal with other Species (and vice versa). Specifically, the idea of trade, economics and individual property are very difficult concepts for Drall colonies to truly grasp. Needless to say this has resulted in conflict when Drall move into a system and begin to exploit it without regard to its current inhabitants.

Drall are naturally attuned to the world of the small and therefore are experts at nano technology and missile construction. All Drall ships feature highly advanced nano-repair units that allow them to speed recovery during battle.

Galactic Reputation

In general, the other species view the Drall as more enigmatic than militaristic. However their rapid growth rate of growth and rapid expansion has begun to cause concern. As of yet, no major wars have been fought in Drall territory.

The Drall species-unique ship, the Fist, is actually partially composed of a large group of Drall, joined via nano technology, with the computers and mechanical systems of the ship. The most fearsome feature of the Fist is its ability to extrude Drall colonies to envelop and hijack nearby enemy ships once their shields are down. To do this, however, the capturing ship must have its shields depleted too.
