Starship Construction

In order to conquer the galaxy, you will first need to build a fleet. The BUILD STARSHIP page will allow you to construct your empires fleet.

First, select the planet where you want to construct your ship. All planets are capable of building the same types of ships so your choise of planet does not affect the types of ship you can build. The types of ships available is determined by your Nanotechnology level, see Research for more information on raising your Nanotechnology level, to see what levels are required for different types of ships, see the ships guide.

Once you have selected a planet you will be presented with the ship build screen. The screen, shown below, provides you with the ability to customize your ship to your own requirements and provides you with statistical information on the ship design.

Ship Build Screen

Selecting Ship Type

Before selecting any other options, select the type of ship that you would like to build from the CLASS drop down selector. Once a class of ship has been selected, you can then select the size of ship from the CATEGORY drop down box, here you will have the option of LIGHT (default), MEDIUM or HEAVY. Light ships will be faster, cheaper & have fewer item slots and heavy ships will stronger, more expensive and have more item slots.

Design Your Ship

With a CLASS and CATEGORY selected you can now allocate the items that you want use on your ship from the available item slots. There are eight different technologies that can be used on your ship, these are Hull, Engines, Shields, Sensors, Stealth, Beams, Missiles and Fighters. These technologies are listed on the left hand side of the ship building screen and each technology has the option for LEVEL and SLOTS. The LEVEL indicates the research level of that technology, by default your maximum level will be selected however you are able to reduce this level if you require - while this will result in a cheaper build cost for your ship, your ship will also be weaker and less effective. The SLOTS selection allows you to allocate a number of item slots for that technology.

To make things simple, there is the DESIGN selector which will allow you to select a basic configuration for your ship. These basic designs are the same across all species and do not account for an special abilities of a species, however the basic designs can be customized to your own requirements, see the Basic Rules listed below for more infomation.

The central area of the build page containes the statistics for your ship design. These statistics will show you the hull and shield strength, ship speed, sensor strength, stealth level, construction costs, build time and maintenance cost. The statistics will also show you information on weapons strength & accuracy and weapon evasion levels (for more information on these see the Combat Guide Politics ). The accuracy displayed is the estimated hit rate against a ship with the evasion level shown in the ENEMY EVASION box. You can enter an evasion level in this box in order to work out the accuracy of your weapons against specific levels of evasion.

Finalising Your Design

Once you have finished your ship design, you can give your ship a name using the NAME box, this name does not affect the game at all but is used for identifcation of ships in the Clone Ships page. The SEND TO RALLY POINT checkbox should be selected if you want the ship to automatically move to your Rally Point when construction is finished. Use the ASSIGN TO ADF checkbox to have your ship entered into the ADF once construction is complete.

When you are satisfied that everything is how you want it, press the BUILD STARSHIP button to build the ship. You will then receive a summary of your ships statistics and the build order has now been placed.

Basic Rules

The designing of ships does have some basic rules relating to types of ships and weapons, these are as follows

- Fighters can only be used on WEAPON PLATFORMS, your SPECIES SHIP (also referred to as the UNIQUE) and CARRIER class ships
- CARRIER class ships cannot use MISSILE weapons
- WEAPON PLATFORMS cannot use ENGINES
- Your ship must have at least 1 slot allocated to ENGINE in order to be able to move
- You must have enough Ore and Production available in order to build your ship

Hints and Tips

- Each race has it's own strengths and weaknesses, keep this in mind when building your ship
- Powerful weapons are not going to be effective if you do not have any/enough sensors, use the evasion/accuracy calculator to see how accurate your ship will be against your enemies ships
- You do not need to use all the available slots if you do not want to
