FAQ

1.0 Account related


Q: On the game settings page it says at the bottom of the page.
WARNING! You will NOT be able to play until you reconfirm your account. How do i do that?
A: You'll be e-mailed a confirmation code. Make sure you check the e-mail you provided. If you used a phony e-mail to sign up you'll have to create another account.

Q: What happens when you're away?
A: Nothing your account just sits there, this is why it's good to check in as often as you can to keep it active, while you're away you might get people attacking you!

Q: I just signed in, can somebody tell me when the game starts?
A: The current galaxy that you are in will start when full. look on the status page to see how many players are needed.

Q: I want to change my Race! How to do this?
A: You need to reset your account (from settings menu) i.e. you will need to restart in a new galaxy - your current will be lost and will be tagged (DELETED).

1.1 Account Sharing, Babysitting, Multing


Q: Can I share my account login details with my allies - so they can colonize planets when I am sleep - to expand faster?
A: Account sharing among allies is NOT tolerated by the admins - this is a sub class of multing and will end up in all account considered being locked and/or deleted.

Q: If I?m away for a while can i give my account to my friend to take care of it?
A: Yes you can give your logon to a friend (if you trust them), as long as your friend does not have an account in the same galaxy OR has also logged into other account of the same galaxy. You'll find 'Babysitter Mode' in the Settings page.

Q: I know it's legal to have multiple accounts as long as they are not in the same galaxy, but what if both accounts died and ended up in the same galaxy, it doesn't let you take one out and when you try resetting it, it just resets all the things you did.
A: Just don't play one of them and you'll be fine. Once you're sure another galaxy is filling you can reset one of your accounts. It should end up in the new galaxy and have a (DELETED) next to it in the old one.

Q: Me and my brother/sister/mother/father/flat mate want to play Space, thoe we have only 1 PC in the house, is this ok?
A: Yes it is but you will have to avoid playing in the same galaxy as them - as space uses IP logs as well as other things to check if account rules are being abided by it would very much show you to be a multi. So as long as you have accounts in different galaxies, it will be fine.

1.2 Donations, banners and popups


Q: Why there are Popups when I open Space?
A: Space is a FREE game, so there is a need to generate some money in order to pay the server fees so that it can be kept free, Popups are such a way for space to make that money.

Q: There are too many Popups and they are annoying me, how do i get rid of them?
A: There are some programs you can find on the net that can help you with the popups and most Firewall software has a blocker in it as well.

Q: Is there benefit for me if i donate to Space?
A: Yes, there is! depending on the amount you donate you could get a uniq forum title, and also you will receive banner free time witch will make you 'free' of popups and automatically gives you the midnight bonus for a certain time depending on the amount you have donated.

1.3 Settings and Language support


Q: Is there any other version of Space besides English?
A: Yes, you can change your language from Main/Settings menu.

Q: Can I change my password?
A: Yes you can do this through settings menu.

Q: What is the image pack and what does it do?
A: The space image pack loads all of the images that space uses onto your PC, this means that you don?t have to keep downloading them again and again when you surf from page to page; it also reduces the load on the server and bandwidth for space. Remember to click "From local system" after you install the pack on the settings page for it to take effect.

2.0 Space's layout (Browser)


Q: Why is space going so slow for me?
A: Space is slow sometimes (especially peak times) because of the massive server load certain galaxies use. Generally Death matches or Free For All games consume a lot of server power. If the server is going slow, then one of these galaxies is probably very large, and about to end. It should clear up once the galaxy ends. Having the image pack installed, and local images turned on also helps. See the Settings page for the image pack. Also the space DB does a mini backup at between :30 & :59 every hour, most are small ones but a few can be a bit big and slow the server down just a bit, depending on what/how many gals are running at the time.

Q: What do the color's on the mini MAP mean (e.g. Red & Blue)?
A: A blue planet belongs to you, a Red planet is one that?s under attack and the green planets (depending on what green they are) belong to your allies. Yellow is a neutral player, and orange is a planet owned by a player who you've had a previous battle with. Grey is unclaimed

3.0 Space's layout (Map)


Q. What shape is the map?
A. The map is roughly circular in shape, however as the maps are generated randomly there can be some significant variation.

Q: How can I make the map load faster?
A: Go into the Settings page and download the image pack. Then install the images on to your computer. It should automatically put them in C:/space/images. Then go back to the settings page, and put the graphics on Local instead of Space Server. When you have a large map, this will greatly reduce load time.

4.0 Economy


Q: What affects population growth?
A: Species growth rate, nanotech level, habitability of the planet, and capacity percentage.

Q: What happens when your credits reach 0 and you still need to pay upkeep?
A: Your empire will automatically sell production first, then ore. The exchange rate used is double what you are normally charged, so it's always best to make sure you have credits on hand at all times.

5.0 Planets/Buildings


Q: What do planets DO in this game?
A: The planets are the main source of income of the game, they have land and depending on what buildings you put on them they can generate ore, production and research for your empire. Planets are also the place where new ships are built/cloned.

Q: How much land do planets have?
A: Planets can come in sizes between 600 and 1200 land.

6.0 Ships


Q: I just built a ship and it wont move now, all other ships move fine so whats worng?
A: The most probable cause of this is that you forgot to add a slot to engines when you built it, check to see what it's speed is if it's zero(0) you cant move it, same applies to weapon platforms. It also might be engaged in fighting in which case you have to change it's orders to retreat and have it flee before it can be moved. You cant move ships that are in transit either.

7.0 Battles


Q: I just killed someone's starting ships, why didn't I get salvage?
A: The 2 starting scouts and the weapons platform don't give salvage. All other ships and platforms do though.

Q: The report says I didn't fire any shots, is it bugged?
A: No, even if your report is put at the top of them all and that your ships are listed first doesn't mean your ships will fire first. Once a planet for instance has been conquered or successfully defended the battle stops and the rest of the ships will be put on idle state but will nevertheless appear in your report (for bureaucratic reasons). Also a battle only takes place when there are enemy ships (so check for pending NAP/Alliance proposals) and only against ships having a fleet. Your ships will also NOT fire any shots if they have a fleet order of "Always Retreat"

Q: The report says all attackers got ore but where's mine ? My Majesty wants ore!
A: Sadly a battle rarely follows the standards of communism so everybody gets what he earns. So if a ship kills another one then its owner will get the salvage for it.

Q: The report sometimes is screwed, I have beam and missile ships attacking and they kill odd amounts of population, this is by any means a serious bug?
A: No, missiles kill parentally and beams absolutely, depending what shoots first you will get different results. Example: (0.5 * 10) - 3 is different to 0.5 * (10 - 3).

Q: I think my reports are bugged the number of shots has become less and less per battle tick!
A: No, this is a technical thing or in layman's terms: "Nothing to worry about". Your ships just try to fire at already dead ships. This is reduced on successfully exercised class-based targeting orders.

Q: I think something is wrong, I am at a planet battle numerous ticks and I still didn't get the planet, I am the victim of a bug!
A: No, you get the planet once population is down to 100.000 and buildings down to 50.

Q: The report states I have enemies but when I look on my map there is none, why is that so?
A: The enemy is using a stealth maneuver here, you may see the enemy on map after you unstealthed his fleets. Also, the enemy could of moved there fleet/s from that planet by the time you looked at the MAP.

7.1 Fleet Officers


Q: What Do fleet officers DO?
A: Fleet offers give the fleet they command an extra bouns in the area they have them in, if your officer has 5 points in damage the ships in the fleet he commands gain a extra 5% damage.

Q: My Fleet officer is gone, do i have a bug in my account?
A: Odds are no, what probably happened is that you left you officer on a fleet that was totally destroyed and thus he was KIA.

8.0 Alliances


Q: Hi, Can you join my alliance?
A: No, In order to be allies, you need to be able to see each other on the game map. Other players are yellow (neutral) and orange (enemy). You can invite players, along with other functions such as renaming your alliance in the Alliance Options section.

9.0 General Questions


Q: What are the stars next to people's names?
A: Stars represent the person's past performance in other galaxies.

10.0 Forum


Q: I see a lot of people with cool custom titles, how do I get one?
A: The fastest way is to start donating to space. The more you donate the more likely that the admins will grant you a custom title. You can also DO things for the game/forum, many people donate a lot of there time as well to make the game/forum a batter place and for that they get a custom title.
